Planning Your Party

We're looking forward to celebrating with you at Recess and wanted to thank you for choosing Recess Collective!  Below are some details that will help as you plan your celebration.  Please don't hesitate to reach out if you have any questions between now and party time.  


Basics for Your Party


  • Max capacity is 49 people.  Suggested: 15 kids + 30 grown-ups max.  Unfortunately, we must bill you $25 per additional person.

  • Everyone must remove shoes.  Adults must wear socks.  

  • The playspace is designed for children ages 0-4yrs.  It is ok to invite siblings & family members who are ages 5yrs and above, but it's nice to remind them to play gently!  


You'll have full use of the playspace, kitchen area and tables/chairs.  Use of serving platters, serving bowls, cupcake tower, knives, etc. is included as well!  The basic set up is as pictured below.  

You'll just need to bring the guests, any decor you'd like to add and food/cake/beverages.  Most people bring tablecloths for the 4 grown up tables (2, 4' tables & 2, 8' buffet tables). We do have a fridge with one shelf reserved for parties.  We do not have an oven, etc.  

PRO TIP — The more simple you keep decor, the easier (and less stressful) party set up & clean up are.

The kitchen area overlooks the play area.  We ask that all food & drink remain in the kitchen area.


You may come in a half hour before your party time (1pm or 4pm, depending on which party time you booked) to start setting up, and then all guests must be out by your party’s end time (3:30pm or 6:30pm depending on which party you booked).

All party items, decor, etc as well as all people must be completely out a half hour after your party’s end time, by 4pm or 7pm, respectively.

You'll be billed $45 per 10 minutes for any attendees that are still on site after 3:30pm or 6:30 respectively.

Food & Drink

You are welcome to bring whatever food & drink you’d like to serve at the party. Some folks bring food prepared at home, some grab basic snacks from Costco, or get catering from Bi-Rite or Guerra’s To Go.

We have basic trays, serving utensils and bowls available if you’d like to use them to serve snacks.

NOTES regarding food/drink:

  • Feel free to have food/drink delivered directly to Recess. If you’ve not tried Instacart previously, that can be a great option is they deliver from Gus’s, Costco, Whole Foods, BiRite, Rainbow, and many other local spots. Use this link to save $10 off your first order.

  • Bring ice. If you’d like to serve drinks…we have large bins you’re welcome to use.

  • Cake/cupcake display. We have 3 glass, tiered trays available for cake/cupcake display.

  • There are approximately 5 high chairs available.

  • Bring along napkins, plates, utensils, cups, and tablecloths if you’d like them.

Optional Add ons:

Please let us know ASAP if you'd like to add any of the following to your party:

  • up to 50 white/clear plates, cups, utensils, napkins and tablecloths  $35

  • 24 La Croix cans on ice $30

  • bin with ice $12

  • 4 large bottles of non alcoholic beverages (lemonade, iced tea, sparkling water, apple juice) on ice $30

  • Custom Decor (contact us w/ theme, scope, and any other details & we'll get pricing info to you)


On the invite:

-  Our location is 2226 Taraval, between 32nd and 33rd.  It's street parking and the venue is easily accessible by public transportation.
-  Please remind your invitees that Recess is shoe-free, and all grown ups will need socks. 
- All visitors will need to sign a waiver upon arrival /prior to visiting the play space.
