Creating spaces for play and connection

Community Play Initiative.

We envision a world in which every neighborhood has a safe, inclusive hub for caregivers and young children to come together.

Our goal is to partner with recreation departments, commercial spaces, condo buildings, and housing authority to sprinkle play in places where folks can most benefit from:

  • a space to put their baby down to crawl and explore.

  • vetted resources.

  • connection. As social beings, we all benefit from community with others who have our back.

But not everyone has these luxuries. The spaces we work to create lay the groundwork for community building.

Recess exists to create spaces that will change the trajectory of a family’s success.

Our spaces, indoors or out, support families as they navigate the early years of their parenting journey. We design places that encourage connectivity and exchange while providing enough space for learning and development.

If there is a stand alone building, an outdoor side yard, an empty room in a high rise, or a dedicated space in an unused conference room we can transform it. Whatever “4 walls'“ contain the space, our goal is to intentionally design the interior to bring residents together, facilitate connection, support healthy early development, and ease the burden of raising young children in an urban environment.

In these spaces, there’s no pretense. Parents are encouraged to come as they are and get the support they need.
